Windows XP is undeniably Microsoft's biggest success. In its early years, more than 8 of 10 computers were installed with XP. Up to this day, when Microsoft already had their flagship Windows 7 OS released, the XP is still waving its flag really high.

Microsoft partner dealers, such as Dell and HP, give consumers the option to downgrade their Windows Vista or Windows 7 equipped computers to Windows XP. This option has allowed the market to continously live on a world dominated XP because as we all know, not a lot of people like changes.

They prefer to be with Windows XP and are not too comfortable with Vista and 7. But recent studies showed that Windows 7 and Windows Vista has already taken the 2nd and 3rd spot respectively in worldwide OS shares. This has given Microsoft the confidence to abandon XP, though not yet totally as they still are willing to give consumers the chance to downgrade if they will. But MS will push for manufacturers to stop offering XP options.

So don't be surprise when you buy a new computer and no XP option is given.

Dell has already started implementing this and announced that they will no longer offer XP options to new PCs manufactured with the Vista and 7 OS. However, Dell will still give XP support to consumers up until December 2012.

Microsoft has given the deadline for all its partners to stop offering XP downgrade options starting October 22, 2010.
